‘We’ve Fought Wars on Beaches’

In these trenches we ready ourselves to attack
Only victory will we accept, we will not fall back
I will go over the top and run
And we will not retreat until all is done
Bayonets on, and ready yourself to fight
Now raise your fingers and salute the flag
And clean the dirt from your dog tag
Pray to god that you will return home
And your wife will not die alone
Pray to god you will watch your children grow
And that you will live again to fight your foe
That you will live to fight another day
And you will never lay here to decay
Now get ready to run and storm their trench
And run over the dead and through their stench
Soldiers raise your rifles held to the sky
And when I signal let the bullets fly
We charge over these green fields covered in blood
And they are polluted with the dead, face down in the mud
Raise the flag when the enemy is dead
And I’ll remember the unit I once led
To me it all looks like a modern hell
And I can hear the officer yell
“No man will be left behind,
Left to rot on the frontline”
My brother is among a hundred thousand fallen names
Who died waiting for the re-enforcements who never came
This battle will be written in a history book
And let us remember every life took
Here is a medal for all of your valor
Now the nation honors you as a saviour
Wear this medal with all your pride
And wear for all those who died
We remember you as many of the brave
Who died in the trenches, that they now call their grave
