Tommy Bolin - Alexis
Alexis thank you for a pleasant Southern day
Spent on the levy throwin' pennies in the bay
And talkin' of the rich folks
On the big boats that pass that way
You were just a young girl
I just could not stay
Alexis I can't remember how we met back then
Was on my way to Atlanta, now I'm on that road again
Not really poor - had money, just not to spend
You were just a young girl, and I was in need of a friend
Alexis you always used to talk about
Leavin' your home town - headin' on South
Maybe down to New Orleans
And you wanted me to help you out
But you were just a young girl
And I was just a hobo that had my doubts
Alexis I did not want to - want to leave you there
Sometimes this life we lead is so unfair
I wanted to take you with me
But I did not dare
You were just a young girl and I could not pay your fare
Alexis you always used to talk about
Leavin' your home town - headin' on South
Maybe down to New Orleans
And you wanted me to help you out
But you were just a young girl
And I was just a hobo that had my doubts
Had my doubts Had my doubts. Had my doubts
Spent on the levy throwin' pennies in the bay
And talkin' of the rich folks
On the big boats that pass that way
You were just a young girl
I just could not stay
Alexis I can't remember how we met back then
Was on my way to Atlanta, now I'm on that road again
Not really poor - had money, just not to spend
You were just a young girl, and I was in need of a friend
Alexis you always used to talk about
Leavin' your home town - headin' on South
Maybe down to New Orleans
And you wanted me to help you out
But you were just a young girl
And I was just a hobo that had my doubts
Alexis I did not want to - want to leave you there
Sometimes this life we lead is so unfair
I wanted to take you with me
But I did not dare
You were just a young girl and I could not pay your fare
Alexis you always used to talk about
Leavin' your home town - headin' on South
Maybe down to New Orleans
And you wanted me to help you out
But you were just a young girl
And I was just a hobo that had my doubts
Had my doubts Had my doubts. Had my doubts

What do you think about this song?
i knew tommy well and interviewed him when i was at kfml in denver many times. what he might have done isnt important because what he did do is share his incredible talents for all to enjoy. i know i will. he was one of those rare artists that shared their inner souls on everything they sang. i know most of the talk about tommy focuses on his guitar work which without question is some of the best ever recorded. but for me beyond that was that mystical voice that arrived on clouds and slid down the lightning straight into your inner ears that echo his musical soul inside the lucky who have had a chance to not just hear but recognize they are a part of tommy bolin. take the time to listen to any one of his works and youll see. in these cloudy days of gaudy sensationalism and cheap theatrics they call music i miss the light more than ever. shine on tommy, just a fan.jay
