U2 - I've Got You Under My Skin
I've got you under my skin
I've got you deep in the heart of me
So deep in my heart
You're really a part of me
I've got you under my skin
I've tried so not to give in
I've said to myself this affair
Never gonna go so well
But why should I try to resist
When baby will I know so well
That I've got you under my skin
I would sacrifice anything come what might
For the sake of holding you near
In spite of a warning voice that comes in the night
And repeats in the shouts in my ear
Don't you know, blue eyes, you never can win
Use your mentality, wake up to reality
But each time I do, just the thought of you
Makes me stop before I begin
˜Cause I've got you under my skin
I'd sacrifice anything come what might
For the sake of having you near
In spite of a warning voice that comes in the night
And repeats in the shouts in my ear
Don't you know, you old fool, you never can win
Use your mentality, wake up to reality
But each time I do just the thought of you
Makes me stop before I begin
'Cause I've got you under my skin
And I love you under my skin
(This song is a duet with Bono and Frank Sinatra and was written by Cole Porter)
Ian's take on I've Got You Under My Skin:
Sinatra originally sang this song as a man talking to himself, whereas in the Bono duet, it is Bono talking to Sinatra about Sinatra's relationship. There was a big fuss in Bono calling Frank an "old fool" but Sinatra seemed quite taken with Bono (although that's a discussion for Two Shots Of Happy, One Shot Of Sad) so it would seem he let it fly. As you can hear, it's still there in the song. It does give the song an interesting new dynamic in that it's a conversation rather than a monologue.
