Loretta Lynn - Coalminers Doughter
Coalminer´s Doughter
Well I was born a coalminer´s doughter
in a cabin on a hill in Butcher Holler
we were poor but we had love
that´s a one thing that daddy make sure of
he shuffled coal to make poor mans dollar
Well my daddy worked all night on a coalmine
all day long in the field a´howing corn
mummy rocked the babes at night
and red the bible by the candle light
and everything would start from break ´till dawn
Well my daddy loved us kids on a miners pay
and mummy scrubed dark clothes on a washboard every day
well I´d seen her fingers bleed
to complain there was no need
she always smiled on mummies understanding way
In the summertime we didn´t have shoes to wear
but in the wintertime we´d all got a brand new pair
from Salina to Cattlemorn money made from sellin´a horn
daddy always managed to get the money somewhere
Well I´m proud to be a coalminer´s doughter
I remember well the well were I´ve drawn waters
well the work we´ve done was hard
at night we slept ´cause we were tired
I´d never thought I´d ever leave on Butcher Holler
Well a lot of things have change since I went back then
and it´s so good to be to be back home again
not so much love any more not the leasure any more
exept the memories of a coalminer´s doughter
Well I was born a coalminer´s doughter
in a cabin on a hill in Butcher Holler
we were poor but we had love
that´s a one thing that daddy make sure of
he shuffled coal to make poor mans dollar
